The 15-Minute Quiet Time

​Friends, what happens when you find you can only spend 15 minutes with God in the morning? What do you do? How do you think Christ would answer that question?

For me, it is Bible Roulette. I am going to randomly open my Bible to some place, and start reading.

Example:

“…  ‘love your neighbor as yourself.’” Matthew 19:19 NIV

That scripture jumped out at me this morning, and it is a great one to ponder. I do in fact have only 15 minutes today, as I had a virus yesterday, and slept in this morning. So, here is the question: “What can I do for the next 10 minutes to honor God, before the deluge of morning meetings hits me like a brick?

Lord, what wisdom do you have for me around this verse?

Child, I want you to love others with my love. Not your human love. Explore what that means.

Lord Jesus, you loved us and sacrificed everything for us. So I should be willing to do the same. Yes?

Yes, my child. You are my servant, to do my bidding. Most Christ-followers don’t like the sound of that because there is such a culture of independence.

Lord Jesus, you want us much more dependent on you, and you want us to see ourselves as your servants.

Yes, child. “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Mark 10:45 NIV

Lord Jesus, we will follow your example. We are here in this life to serve you and love you, and serve and love others. And, to do this well, we must also fully love ourselves. But, all this can only be accomplished well with your love, which is divine. Not our “love” which is human.

Yes, child. You understand. Be at peace today, and serve all those you encounter, and love them with my love.

OK Lord. Will do. Thank you. And, sorry I only had 15 minutes this morning.

Yes, this is true. I will have another quiet time this afternoon. Please help me to remember to do that.
